The Marais is the one Paris neighbourhood where a hotel room is the wrong shape. The streets are for walking at eleven at night, the shops keep their own hours, and what you want at the end of a day of it is a kitchen and a door of your own. Roi de Sicile Rivoli is built on exactly that reading of the arrondissement.
It runs as an annex to the Hôtel Rivoli, four categories of apartment and studio between 25 and 55 square metres, from the Studio Premium up to the Suite Couture. Each one has a fully equipped kitchen, which is the fact that matters: it is the difference between eating at the hours the hotel keeps and eating at yours. Some categories open onto a balcony over the street.
Downstairs there is a bar in the vaulted stone cellar, which is the building telling you its age without a plaque. The published rate starts at 310 € a night for the Studio Premium, and the address is honest about the range rather than hiding it behind a date search. That is rarer than it should be.
Who it suits: someone in Paris for four nights or fourteen who wants to be inside the Marais rather than a taxi ride from it, and who would rather have a kitchen than a concierge.
