The Chatwal is in a 1905 Stanford White building on West 44th Street that was the Lambs Club, the actors' club, which is the correct provenance for a hotel in the Theater District. The building is landmarked and the history is not decoration.
Thierry Despont did the interiors in Art Deco, and the restaurant on the ground floor still carries the Lambs Club name. The rooms are smaller in number than the block suggests. If you are going to the theatre, the walk is three minutes and you do not need a car.
